Horizontal Stitch Embroidery

Creating harmony with modernity through a century-old traditional technique. Here is the horizontal stitch embroidery machine I use. It's about 70 years old and was manufactured in Kyoto. Even when I was working as an artisan in Kyoto, I used a JUKI machine of the same model.

Horizontal stitch embroidery is a traditional craft born in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, about 100 years ago. It's a technique often used in Japanese traditional garments such as "uchikake" (wedding kimonos), "furisode" (long-sleeved kimonos), and "haneri" (collars), requiring a soft and delicate touch in embroidery. This technique is performed using a dedicated machine, entirely freehand without computerization.
